Akosombo Dam was the reason for this day trip, and here it is.
Though lacking the size of Hoover or Aswan Dams, which I’ve also seen, for a country as poor as Ghana, it’s a major accomplishment of which Ghanaians are proud.
For the tourist, a cruise around Lake Volta is available.
Here are Safua, Edna and Mr. Danquah, who was driving us around for the day. We had made another stop at Cedi Beads earlier in the day since we were passing right by the place, so everyone is wearing Cedi bracelets.
We drove over a hill on the other side of Lake Volta to Akosombo Port, where there was a ship waiting to take on cargo and passengers and some vendors congregating near the ticket window.
Edna loves the camera and poses for me near some impressively huge locally made baskets.
The baskets were beautifully made, and the palm nuts were pretty eye catching as well.
