Lunch taken care of, Day 2 of the Ghana road tour
takes me to the Elmina slave fortress.
The Same Blood Spot wasn’t far from the Ko-Sa Beach Resort, where we would stay overnight.
Ko-Sa was quiet and charming. Staff members were helpful, attentive and hospitable. We checked in, but before exploring the grounds and taking a look at the beach, we went to Elmina.
Elmina is a small fishing village about 15 minutes from Ko-Sa. It’s notable mainly for the fortress that held slaves before shipping them off to the New World.
Even though it’s commonly referred to as the Elmina castle, the word “castle” for me conjures up romantic ideas of kings, knights and princesses. A fortress is Elmina’s truer nature.
