A Delicate Balance

March 13, 2010 by mariemcc

Anyone who spends any amount of time in Ghana will see people carrying things on their heads.  This photoessay is dedicated to all the people in Ghana, who work so hard every day.

It’s easier to carry a heavy load or a large, awkward load on your head than in your arms, something we in the developed world seem to have forgotten.

It always fascinated me to see how gracefully the women carried their burdens, no matter how heavy or unwieldy.

Everyone learns the art of  balance from a young age.

They make it look so easy, but it’s not.

Carrying water is very hard. It’s so heavy.

People work hard here.

Of course, men carry things, too.
